I am an IMG doing a residency in pediatrics and on a J1 visa in New York. I am in my 2nd year and now I am in confusion whether to search for a wavier job or go for a fellowship. I have heard that getting a wavier job in pediatrics is not so easy. I have also heard that getting a wavier after fellowship is a more diifficult task. What will be the j1 wavier job prospect in a few years time and what is the chance that you will get wavier in few years time especially in pediatrics? please post your comments and share with me…………. waiting for replies,…………….

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIt is true the Pediatrics has become more difficult, but certainly not impossible. Our recommendation is to stay flexible as far as geographic location and job type and start early in your search.
You don’t mention what type of fellowship that you are seeking. We have placed this year a Pedatric Cardiologist and a Pediatrician with a CC fellowship. Both did general pediatrics as well as some work in their fellowhips. They are both working in a great facility near a larger metropolitan area and are very happy….but it took time and is not an easy job search. Be realistic in your expectations.
The next couple of years look tight for pediatrics, but again there are opportunities out there and if you are a good fit will be considered.
Maybe others have their experiences that they can share with you, but that is our experience as a placement and recruiting agency that handles only J1 physicians.
